Santa Clarita has passed Thousand Oaks, Pasadena, and even Santa Monica in retail sales. Santa Clarita's retail sales exceed $2 billion in 2006. In spite of the large retail sales base, residents still travel to the San Fernando Valley for shops and restaurants in the Santa Clarita Valley, though that gap is narrowing every year. Santa Clarita was named by the Economic Development Corporation as Los Angeles County's most business-friendly city.
